As someone who considers the Muppet movies to be cinematic masterpieces, I’m always excited when The Jim Henson Company releases something new. While this collaboration with Monster Cereals might not be on the same scale as The Muppet Christmas Carol, its charm is impossible to ignore, perfectly capturing that unique Henson magic.

The packaging for Monster Cereals is a cultural icon in itself, instantly evoking feelings of nostalgia and childhood memories. This makes it an ideal partner for The Jim Henson Company. The new designs don’t just sit on the shelf; they bring the cereal’s beloved mascots to life in a way that is both a triumph of playful packaging and a masterclass in character design.
Launched to celebrate The Jim Henson Company’s 70th anniversary, this special project gives three iconic mascots—Boo Berry, Franken Berry, and Count Chocula (who I’m convinced must be a cousin of Count von Count)—a full puppet makeover. Beyond the vibrant new box art, the legendary Jim Henson Creature Shop built actual, physical puppets. These puppets star in a wonderfully cute social media campaign and appear on new merchandise.

Mindy Murray, Brand Experience Director at General Mills, shared the brand’s enthusiasm: “This is more than a cereal box; it’s a piece of art. We know fans have a deep love for these Monsters and look forward to their return every year. That’s why we knew a partnership with The Jim Henson Company was the perfect way to create a real sense of delight—leading to our first-ever fuzzy Franken Berry box.”
This collaboration is a true burst of joy for fans of both classic characters and masterful design. For more inspiration on creating memorable characters, be sure to check out these drawing warm-up exercises.
