McDonald’s presents festive moments of joy in Christmas advertisement

McDonald’s UK’s new seasonal commercial features guests at Christmas work dos, parents looking for comfort at school nativity performances, and Santa himself all eagerly packing in whatever they’re doing to enjoy a snack from McDonald’s UK.

Fancy a McDonald’s? is a spot starring people skipping out on Christmas traditions to head in droves to their nearest McDonald’s branch accompanied by Van Halen’s 80s classic Jump.

Directed by Shannon Murphy – best known for her work on Killing Eve – this ad celebrates “all those important moments of release during the festive period”, according to James Millers and Andrew Long, creative partners at Leo Burnett.

The spot offers a fresh take on McDonald’s Raise Your Arches campaign, in which people silently convey an invite for McDonald’s with raised eyebrows. Furthermore, this new commercial features an allusion to Love Actually (now 20 years old!) cue card scene as a means of circumventing its wordless concept.

McDonald’s is joining an increasingly long line of brands urging individuals to celebrate Christmas their own way – whether that means visiting McDonald’s or not – suggesting an end to wholehearted acceptance of all holiday traditions following pandemic outbreak.
